The Basic Role Of A Finance Manager

The service of providing funds or capital for commercial or private reasons comes under the umbrella term – Finance. It is also a branch of economics that studies the management of money and other assets. It can be also defined as the management of funds and capital required by a business and private activities. Management of finance has also developed into a specialized branch within the financial sector and is carried out by finance managers.

Simply put these managers arrange money to be lent to businesses or private individuals using either money already available from company accounts or from external lenders. The simple process of optimization is used to receive the most from these funds by reducing the cost of arranging the finance whilst at the same time ensuring returns are high. The fact is that it governs most of the worlds activities and poor finance management will immediately show up as conditions deteriorate in procurement, production and sales as it affects every sphere of business activities. The finance manager’s job is to maximize profits whilst keeping the risk to a minimum so you can understand why there is a high level of stress associated with this work.

One of the most famous management gurus Lee Iacocca referred to finance managers as Bean-Counters who almost look at the expense part with a rather pessimistic view. Finance managers are people who always like to see where they have been and do not look towards the future in the same way that a sales manager does. For most small business owners there is not a clear distinction between personal and business which often leads to the funds being used in areas that are not part of the arrangement. When money is lent under these circumstances, lenders feel quite aggrieved as they have lost control of where the money is being invested.

Although resisting the tendency to use funds this way may dampen someone’s enthusiasm in the short term, it will focus the attention of the borrower and perhaps instill more discipline in the future. Fortunately, small businesses can always use the more approved methods of friends or relations to help provide finance. However, finance managers are in the position of making money for their company so out sourcing their lending can help increase their profits. The famous comedian Bob Hope best summed up the subject when he once said; a bank is a place that will lend you money but only if you can prove that you don’t need it.

List of Simple Carbohydrates and Complex Carbohydrates Foods

There are 2 types of carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are considered simple or complex based upon their chemical structure. So what are complex carbohydrates, or some call them starch?

Complex Carbohydrates

They are simply sugars bonded together to form a chain. Because of it’s complex chain form, your digestive enzymes have to work much harder to access the bonds to break the chain into individual sugars for absorption through the intestines.

Because of that, the digestion of complex carbohydrates takes longer. The slow absorption of sugars provides you with a steady supply of energy and limits the amount of sugar converted into fat and stored!

Usually people consider complex carbohydrates as good carbohydrates.

Here’s a list of complex carbohydrates foods.

Spinach
Whole Barley
Grapefruit
Turnip Greens
Buckwheat
Apples
Lettuce
Buckwheat bread
Prunes
Water Cress
Oat bran bread
Dried apricots
Zucchini
Oatmeal
Pears
Asparagus
Oat bran cereal
Plums
Artichokes
Museli
Strawberries
Okra
Wild rice
Oranges
Cabbage
Brown rice
Yams
Celery
Multi-grain bread
Carrots
Cucumbers
Pinto beans
Potatoes
Dill Pickles
Low fat yogurt
Soybeans
Radishes
Skim milk
Lentils
Broccoli
Navy beans
Garbanzo beans
Brussels
Sprouts
Cauliflower
Kidney beans
Eggplant
Soy milk
Lentils
Onions
Whole meal bread
Split peas

Complex Carbohydrates

Simple carbohydrates are digested quickly. Many simple carbohydrates contain refined sugars and few essential vitamins and minerals. People usually consider these as bad carbohydrates.

Why bad?

These simple carbohydrates are actually smaller molecules of sugar unlike the long chains in complex carbohydrates.

They are digested quickly because the individual sugars are ready to be absorbed immediately plus digestive enzymes have easy access to the bonds in the paired molecules.

You could say most of the work has been done for the digestive system! Foods like cake, pastry, biscuits, chocolate, etc (you get the idea) contain lots of “empty” calories.

Because our cells usually do not require that amount of energy at that time of eating, the sugar must either be converted to glycogen (sugar storage within cells) or converted to fat.

Your body cells can only store a limited amount of glycogen, so in many common cases, taking too much food that contains simple carbohydrates may contribute to body fat stores.

Here’s a list of simple carbohydrates foods.

Table sugar
Corn syrup
Fruit juice
Candy
Cake
Bread made with white flour
Pasta made with white flour
Soda pop
Candy
All baked goods made with white flour
Most packaged cereals
Honey
Milk
Yoghurt
Jam
Chocolate

Biscuit

There are a lot more foods that contains simple and complex carbohydrates. You can using the list above as a starting point for a healthier diet immediately.

I’m a Woman and My Hair is Thinning at the Crown – Tips and Advice That May Help

The other day, I received an email from a woman who told me that she was noticing a lot of thinning and scalp showing through at her crown.  She told me: “If I hold a mirror at the back of my head, I see that my part goes all the way to the back.  I can see my scalp back there and it forms almost a little L at the back of my head.  I’m so self conscious of it and I’m always trying to cover it up but I’m wondering if the all the teasing and spraying is making it thin worse. What is causing this and what can I do to fix it?” I’ll try to answer all of her questions in the following article.

Typical Causes For Hair Thinning At The Crown In Women: Actually the crown is a place that is very vulnerable to genetic or androgenic thinning and / or shedding.  Certain areas on your scalp – like the temples, the top, and the crown – are more prone to being affected by DHT and other androgens which can choke out the follicle, kick out the hair, and make the regrowth skimpy and thin so that the over all effect is much more sparse.

So, androgenic alopecia, (or genetic thinning due to age or oversensitivity to hormones), is the most likely cause in seeing more scalp at the back of your head.  But, it is not the only possibility.  You actually start out with less hair in the top of your head than in other areas on your scalp.  The temples are another example of this.  So, these two areas are going to be the first places that are noticeably affected if you are shedding or losing hair due to something else.

The next most common cause of this is probably telogen effluvium or shedding.  There are many reasons that this can occur (illness, medication changes, stress, skin issues, etc.)  but probably the most common cause of this in women is hormonal changes, like birth control pills (going off or on), or giving birth and / or becoming pregnant.  Sometimes, thyroid and adrenal changes can cause TE also.

As I said, any aggressive shedding or hair loss can cause noticeable thinning on your scalp.  But the crown is one area that begins more sparsely so it can be one of the first places that the loss is noticeable.  Other reasons for hair loss include autoimmune issues, allergic reactions, and any condition that can affect your skin or scalp.

How Do I Cover Or Treat My Thinning Crown?:  Your first line of defense is going to be your hair cut.  You want a cut or style that is going to push the hair up and away from the scalp. This often includes layered cuts (although you want to avoid harsh cuts that allow scalp to show through.) Curls or waves can help too.

There are also products now that are like little lifts that you put under your hair.  This lifts that hair up without your needing to tease it.  You basically just lay the hair over the lift. And, you really should avoid harsh back combing or teasing.  The hair here is often quite fragile and you could inadvertently pull more hair out. There are also powders that you get in the same color as your hair that you sprinkle onto your scalp so that the white of your scalp isn’t such a noticeable contrast.

A more long term solution is aggressively addressing the cause of your hair thinning or shedding. If you genuinely have telogen effluvium, you’ll need to wait it out, but you can most definitely stimulate your scalp to ensure that you have quick and healthy regrowth.

If you have one of the other issues (AGA, scalp issues, allergies, medical problems, autoimmune issues, etc.) then you will need to directly address and attempt to fix these things while simultaneously stimulating your scalp to help decrease the loss while increasing the regrowth. Because look at it this way, no matter how good you get at covering your thinning crown, the job is only going to continue to get harder if you have less hair to work with.

Therapeutic Communication in the Nursing Profession

Nursing is a caring profession. It is also a profession that is more and more evidenced based in practice. In as much as the scientific aspects of nursing is increasing due to the complex technological advancement of medicine and the machinery that is used at the patients bedside, the fact remains that the nurse is the first person that the client usually comes in contact with in any emergency or hospital setting.

Having said this, the term, “caring” is an essential emotion that all nurses, for that matter, all individuals in the health profession must possess. With caring comes the trained ability of the nurse to facilitate therapeutic communication. One might ask, what is therapeutic communication? To better answer this question, the term communication should first be defined.

Communication can be defined as “The Process of transmitting messages and interpreting meaning.” (Wilson and others, 1995) With therapeutic communication, the sender, or nurse seeks to illicit a response from the receiver, the patient that is beneficial to the patients mental and physical health. Just as stress has been proven to adversely affect the health of individuals, the therapeutic approach to communication can actually help. In any given situation everyone uses communication.

Everyone has seen the individual that looks like they are either angry, stressed, feeling ill or maybe sad. These emotions are communicated to others not always by words, but by gestures and facial expressions. A nurse must always be aware of these expressions in clients, for these expressions may be the only way that the nurse can tell if there is something else going on that needs their attention. The term given to this type of non-verbal communication is called, meta-communication. In meta-communication, the client may look at their amputated stump and say that it doesn’t really look that bad, while at the same time tears are rolling down from their eyes.

In a case such as this the nurse should stay and further explore how the person actually feels. There are many factors associated with the healing and comforting aspects of therapeutic communication. Circumstances, surroundings, and timing all play a role in the effect of therapeutic communication. If a client is being rushed down for an emergency surgery there might not be time for a bedside conversation, but the holding of a hand could convey much more than words to the client at such a moment.

Ideally, for therapeutic communication to be effective the nurse must be aware of how they appear to the client. If a nurse appears rushed, for example, they are speaking quickly, their countenance looks harried, and they are breathing heavily, their eyes not on the client but perhaps on an intravenous bag on the client in the next bed. In a case like this, there is nothing that this nurse could say to the client in a therapeutic manner that the client would believe. The helping relationship has not been established and therefore therapeutic communication cannot be facilitated. Some of the emotions associated with therapeutic communication include but are not limited to the following: Professionalism, Confidentiality, Courtesy, Trust, Availability, Empathy, and Sympathy. (Potter, Patricia A., Perry, Anne G., Co. 2003, Basic Nursing Essentials for Practice, pg. 123, Mosby)

All of these emotions go into the client nurse relationship, which must be established by the nurse as soon as possible upon first meeting the client. To begin to establish this nurse client relationship, the nurse must assess the overall message that the client is communicating to the nurse, such as fear, pain, sadness, anxiety or apathy. The nurse should be trained in keying into the message that the client is sending. Only then can the nurse determine the best therapeutic approach. Anyone that has to be thrust in to a hospital or emergency room environment has level of anxiety.

This level can go up considerably when the client feels that they have been abandoned or that there is no one there that really cares about how they feel. When a client is the recipient of therapeutic communication from a caring individual, a level of trust is achieved and more than, that the clients entire countenance can change for the better. Their blood pressure, respirations and levels of stress can simultaneously decrease. When this takes place, the management of pain, if any is involved, can be resolved more quickly. The goal for a nurse is to become proficient in the medical

Sales Potential – Using KPI’s to Measure Sales Performance

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are performance metrics that management use to help make effective decisions to guide a business and enhance performance. Common sales performance metrics include total sales revenues, number of sales, average order value, repeat sales, sales for year-to-date, and so on. These metrics on their own only provide part of the story however, and as a sales or business manager you need to be able to understand what the metrics actually represent and how they are affecting your overall business performance. Looking at KPI’s in isolation is not of such great help, but when you are able to look at trends and the relationships between metrics and how these integrate to form a complete picture, you are well on your way to unleashing the power of the metric.

Certain sales metrics provide more information than others, for instance gross sales is quite an accurate and absolute indicator however it does little for providing information on it’s own, particularly if you are looking to maximize profitability with a diverse product range. Similarly, it is of little use if you are looking to direct sales efforts by incentivizing sales of certain product lines that provide the greatest contribution to the bottom line. In short, you need to use a range of KPI’s to provide a fuller picture of overall sales performance.

When identifying the KPI’s you will be using, ensure that they are relevant, can accurately be measured, and collected in a timely fashion. Applying weightings to those metrics that you consider more important to overall sales performance will allow you to produce a balanced scorecard that will provide a realistic picture of what is going on to produce your actual sales results. This is where many sales managers end their use of KPI’s and balanced scorecards, simply consigning them as management measures of what has been rather than using these powerful tools for their true purpose, not measurement but control.

Taking an holistic approach to sales performance management will mean that you are able to establish and explain why performance gaps appear, and set realistic targets that can be compared not only internally, but with industry benchmarks. The ability to identify KPI’s and implement standard reporting and measurement allows managers to implement individual team member targets that will contribute to the overall sales plan and gain acceptance and responsibility for delivering personal targets. Further, historical data produced by metric reporting on sales performance will assist in deciding where future sales efforts are best placed. The ability to determine which sales territory or customer is likely to produce the best results will assist in reducing wastage and improve sales team effectiveness.

Control over a sales team’s efforts can be readily exercised if management understand where performance is coming from and where remedial attention is needed if sales metrics are updated and collated as part of a standardized reporting routine. It is a management maxim, that you cannot measure what you do not measure however, it is also equally important that the metrics you select for inclusion in your reporting are contributing to the picture of sales performance and not clouding the fundamentals with extraneous information.

Vicks Vapor Rub On Your Child’s Feet To Stop The Night Time Cough

I received an email recently about how doctor’s found great results in reducing a child’s night time cough by rubbing Vicks Vapor Rub on their feet, then putting the kid’s socks on, and letting them go to bed. Now this email stated that not only were they getting good results, but the Vicks technique was working 100% of the time. Hmmmmmm, Time to test

I have a young child and now that we are entering the cold season I figured I would have the opportunity to test this method out. Well, the doctors were right. One night I woke hearing my child coughing steadily in his sleep. Remembering the email that I received a few days earlier I decided to give the Vicks a shot. I went into his room and started applying the Vicks. Now, my child is a very sound sleeper and will sleep through anything, so me applying the Vicks to his feet did not even begin to stir him from his deep slumber. I tell you this because the results were amazing. After I applied the Vicks, but before the socks were even on I noticed that his coughing subsided and his breathing was deeper. I wanted to think that this was due to the fact that I had woken him up and he was simply not coughing ‘at that moment’. That wasn’t the case. He had literally stopped coughing all together.

I went to bed that night and was questioned by my child during breakfast on how the socks arrived on his feet in the middle of the night… he didn’t even know.

The skeptic that I am was amazed, but still thought that it was just luck. Needless to say a couple nights later my child was coughing after a long Halloween night. Immediately I went for the Vicks Vapor Rub. Again, the coughing stopped upon application. I can’t believe how well this works, but I wanted to share it with other parents out there knowing that a good night’s sleep is like gold!

Jelqing Techniques – Step by Step – The Safe and Natural Way to Penis Enlargement Exercises

What is Jelqing Techniques?

Jelqing (also called “milking”) is a penis enlargement exercise technique that increases blood pressure in the penis to enlarge it. This technique is the natural way because it uses hand exercise to increase blood pressure and muscle without drugs and have no side effects. But this method may require time and effort rather.

How does Jelqing work?

These exercises work by rebuilding and expanding the spongy tissue in the penis to increase the maximum erect size of penis. This exercise makes blood flow better and increase blood pressure in the penis.

What are Jelqing steps?

These exercises are 2 major steps: warm up steps and jelqing steps.

Warm up steps:

This step is extremely important to prevent an injury while exercising. You need to warm up before exercises. This step may take approximately 3 – 5 minutes

Instructions:

Soak a clean and soft cloth in warm water with temperature not too hot.
Wrap the cloth around your penis about 3 – 5 minutes.
Remove the cloth and then use other soft, dry and clean cloth to dry off your penis.
Jelqing steps:

You need to do this step slowly and carefully. This step may take approximately 10 – 20 minutes.

Instructions:

Make lubricating hand by using massage oil, therapy lotion or something like these (you must not use soap) and then make a sign “OK” by that hand.
Wrap your “OK” hand around the underside of the penis shaft as close your scrotum as possible and then pull down until you reach the glans (head).
Repeat step 2 again by using other hand. For each stroke, you should make it about 3 seconds.
For best result, you should do the above steps at least 200-300 strokes per day until your penis larger.

How to Make Your Breasts Grow – Ways to Make Them Bigger Naturally

Are you wondering about how to make your breasts bigger and you are afraid of surgery and implants? Are you trying to find out the safest method to make them larger? Now there are safer methods than surgery that can help you grow bigger breast. In this article I will tell you about some of the natural breast enhancement methods:

Enhancement Creams

What breast enlargement creams do is that they mimic the action of estrogen in your body leading to promotion of additional tissue in your breast. They contain ingredients which are plant based and they are similar to estrogen, so by applying these creams to your breast they enhance the growth of your breast tissue by stimulating the estrogen receptors in the mammary glands.

Enhancement Pills

Breast enhancement pills also have the same mechanism in enlarging breasts as they also can mimic the action of estrogen in your body. Pills can have better effect as they can provide more amounts of these compounds that have an effect similar to estrogenic effect. The same idea applies here to as these pills stimulate estrogen receptors to help adding new tissue to your breast.

Pumps

Pumps are a good and simple to make your breast grow permanently. They can increase size of the breast slightly by encouraging breast tissue expansion by their vacuum pressure. The bad thing about breast pumps is that they only increase breast size by about half a cup and you have to wear it about 12 hours a day.

7 Fish Oil Benefits Proven by Research

Research studies show fish oil benefits are down right amazing.

And knowing this is the second most important thing you can do for your health. (We’ll get to #1 in importance soon.)

Studies are published almost daily as the scientific community discovers more and more of the many extraordinary omega 3 fish oil benefits.

If you haven’t already been swept up in the net yet, here are 7 proven omega 3 benefits you should know about.

1. Less Pain and Inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, have a very positive effect on your inflammatory response. Through several mechanisms, they regulate your body’s inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in “itis.”

2. Cardiovascular Health. Omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to work wonders for your heart and the miles and miles of arteries and veins that make up your cardiovascular system. They help to lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol. This adds years to your life expectancy.

3. Protection from Stroke and Heart Attack. When plaque builds up on arterial walls and then breaks loose, it causes what’s known as a thrombosis, which is a fancy way of saying clot. If a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and when it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Research shows omega 3 fatty acids break up clots before they can cause any damage.

4. Better Brain Function and Higher Intelligence. Pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence and happiness of their babies by supplementing with fish oil. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You’ll swear you’re getting younger and smarter.

5. Less Depression and Psychosis. Making you smarter is not all omega 3 does for your brain. Psychiatry department researchers at the University of Sheffield, along with many other research studies, found that omega 3 fish oil supplements “alleviate” the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis (Journal of Affective Disorder Vol. 48(2-3);149-55).

6. Lower Incidence of Childhood Disorders. Just to show how fish oil fatty acids leave nobody out, studies show that children (and adults) with ADD and ADHD experience a greatly improved quality of life. And those with dyslexia, dyspraxia and compulsive disorders have gotten a new lease on life thanks to omega 3 oils.

7. Reduction of Breast, Colon and Prostate Cancer. And finally, omega 3 fish oil has been shown to help prevent three of the most common forms of cancer – breast, colon and prostate. Science tells us that omega 3s accomplish this in three ways. They stop the alteration from a normal healthy cell to a cancerous mass, inhibiting unwanted cellular growth and causing apoptosis, or cellular death, of cancer cells.

So you can see why knowing these benefits is the second most important thing you can do for your health. Can you guess what number one is?

That’s right! Now it’s time to put your knowledge to work. Eat more cold water oily fish and start taking good quality pure omega 3 fish oil supplements regularly.
